another reason to watch consumption

i fill and empty shopping carts all over the internet on the regular- clothing, jewelry, and lately fabric and notions. but even those are a part of the fashion factory. and it can't hurt to have a reminder of why i need to focus on reclaimed fabrics, rather than new ones. sigh.

Let's talk about Tommy Hilfiger! why not.

see that ugly widget?

i used that ugly green widget down there to recycle two vacuum corpses earlier this month. that thing is great! hint: BEST BUY takes your e-waste, no matter how big, no hassle. (#win?)

the little green widget doesn't tell you what the people on craigslist want (guitar yes, "midcentury" stereo cabinet no) or what the people in your neighborhood will pick up from the yard (stroller base yes, despite dirt, grime, and age; crib bumpers no, despite excellent condition and designer label), but maybe you can figure that out on your own.

Reduce! repurpose! recycle! sorry, i'm weird from sewing all day. R

major news in greenhouse gases and climate change

but it's so incredibly complicated I can't bother going into it. unless we're drinking and incredibly bored -- or ice cream -- you're just going to have to trust me on this one. I have some inside scoop that the USDOE has made an incredibly smart decision that will radically change the way gub'ment dollars are distributed around fuel and energy. and it might get even better. this is totally good for the kid.

so highfive everybody! enjoy your weekend!

welcome to the environmental movement

we're all dating/marrying/partnering interracially.

we're this white as hell office, all good intentioned and smarty pants, and a large portion of us have non-white partners.

not all, ok. but a good number.

is it just the bay area? or is it that this (environment) is where lots of white folks get to plug in?

made an offer on a house

WHAT? who is this person whose life I am living? is this a grownup? i was talking to the IRS on my bluetooth as i commuted (publicly, natch) this morning. who is that? i look at my tall, sparkly socks. Oh, it's still me.

so this person who wears the great socks and worries about resale value of her bay area property* AND the earth loving hippie who studied "the envir'ment" in college so long ago are BOTH excited to read this in the new york times (quick clip "As gas prices climb, people who once considered an exurban commute are now considering center-city living."). urban renewal, indeed.

*and no, I don't actually have the property yet. but i (we) might soon!

i love my momma, too

env

I sent her these lovely lavender roses. My company certified that they were grown "sustainably," but they definitely came in on a plane from Ecuador. doesn't sustainablility relate to carbon neutrality? Ah well, at least the workers had health care.

Aint they (the flowers) perty? I think so. I almost got the chartreuse ones, but those are for me. These are for moms.

hi todd!

We have a new reader today. "out" readers now = 2! somehow, 40-50 others are sneaking in & out through the week. I'll find you out eventually!

btw the photo below is from my visit with emls & bootsy this weekend. a delicious road trip that had me walking crazy tall & strong on Monday. what a difference a whole bunch of air, sunshine, tall trees & cute friends can make.
